JoAnn Barberio Zimmerman. In 1979, founded Amanda the Panda, http://www.amandathepanda.org/history.html an organization to serve children living with cancer and children grieving the death of a loved one through accident, illness, suicide, or homicide. Amanda the Panda's services include weekend camps, support groups, fun days, and holiday support. Since founding Amanda the Panda, the organization has served over 40,000 people from all 99 counties in Iowa, as well as grieving families from twenty-three other states. During the last twenty-five years, Zimmerman's work has been featured in Life Magazine, Better Homes and Gardens, Catholic Digest, Family Circle, and Bereavement Magazine. She has appeared on Good Morning, America! and has been a presenter to national and international conferences including the World Gathering on Bereavement, the International Conference on Children and Death, and the National Hospice Organization.
