Born April 5, 1937, in West Orange, NJ, to Floyd
C. Huff and Elizabeth Spettigue, George was raised by his mother
and stepfather, John Leyerzaph, in Madison, CT, and Sarasota, FL.
During his youth, he competed in junior tennis tournaments across
Florida and New England, a passion that continued throughout his
life.
George graduated from The Bolles School in Jacksonville, FL, where
he was a dedicated athlete, playing baseball and captaining the
tennis team. His two years at Bolles were pivotal in preparing him
for his appointment to the United States Military Academy at West
Point. At West Point, George continued his athletic pursuits, captaining
the highly successful tennis team and competing at the top level
on the squash team.
Graduating with the Class of 1958 as one of its youngest members,
George went on to complete rigorous training at the U.S. Army Airborne
and Ranger Schools, as well as the Army Artillery Defense School
at Fort Bliss, TX. He then served with distinction in an artillery
missile battalion in Northern Italy. Following his military service,
in 1961, George became the athletic director for the U.S. military's
SETAF region, traveling extensively across Europe. During this time,
he also coached an Italian baseball team and represented a prominent
U.S. mutual fund company.
In 1965, George transitioned to a civilian career, joining the Mutual
of New York Insurance Company's advanced management sales program,
which led him to California. Over the next four decades, he founded
and led several prominent financial service firms and played a key
role in establishing the financial planning industry. Under his
leadership, these firms provided investment and estate planning
services through hundreds of advisors to thousands of clients.
While stationed in Italy, George married Diella Dall'Aglio in 1962.
Together, they had three children-two born in Italy and one in California.
George later married Sandy Setrian and welcomed a fourth child in
Marin County. In his later years, he retired with his partner, Sharon
Spaulding, to Boquete, Panama, where he enjoyed a fulfilling and
adventurous life.
George is remembered as a fun-loving father who cherished his five
children and as a partner who brought joy and companionship to those
around him. He is survived by his children: George and Michele (Meisenbach)
Huff, Tammy (Huff) and Ken Pedersen, Sabrina (Huff) and Stuart Miller,
Lindsey Huff, and Tasha Huff; his partner Sharon; and his brothers
Bruce Huff, Bob Huff, and John Leyerzaph. John, also a graduate
of The Bolles School and West Point (Class of 1964), fondly recalls
George as a mentor, protector, tennis doubles partner, and fierce
competitor on the court. Their shared experiences shaped a lifelong
bond that helped John captain the same tennis and squash teams years
later.
George Huff's legacy as a dedicated serviceman,
a pioneer in his field, and a beloved family man will forever endure
in the hearts of those who knew him.
