Duane Ellett was a famous Iowa television personality. He was on radio and television from 1957 to 1987. Mr. Ellett entertained thousands of Iowa children for three decades with a lovable puppet beagle named "Floppy." In addition to his work in television, Mr. Ellett belonged to and participated in many community organizations, and he donated many hours to public appearances for charitable organizations. Duane Ellett died in 1987, but the memory of him and his puppet "Floppy" will live on in the minds of many Iowans.

Once again returning for your memories!

Back by popular demand!

Here's a fun fact: The number of Floppy's fans on Facebook recently topped 10,500, which means the online community dedicated to Iowa's most famous beagle puppet is larger than about 97 percent of the state's actual towns. It's been a long time since many of those fans have seen Floppy in action, but they're finally in luck: The first ever "Duane and Floppy Film Festival" celebrates the late puppeteer Duane Ellett and his squeaky-nosed hound with three screenings of old clips at 1 and 7 p.m. Tuesday (12/29) and 1 p.m. Wednesday (12/30) at the State Historical Building, 600 E. Locust Street, Des Moines. Admission: $5. Info: (515) 281-5111; http://www.iowahistory.org/ You will be able to buy your Floppy items there.
